Fayette Humane Society
The Fayette Humane Society, in Fayette County, Ga., is an all-volunteer, no-kill organization, which houses all its rescues in foster homes. This group completes 400 to 500 adoptions every year, with 50-100 being fostered on a regular basis. They work closely with the local animal shelter, and when they have a foster home available, they are likely to take an animal from the shelter.
This group of 50+ active volunteers keep very busy. Their two primary sources of rescues are stray animals and owner surrenders, as pets cannot be surrendered to the county shelter. In addition to working with the shelter, they also assist the low-income segment of the population with spay/neuter, emergency medical care, and food pantry needs when they have funding available. Their Seniors for Seniors program offers adult cats/dogs (6 yrs +) to senior citizens (62+) at half price.
